Burkeville ISD School Health Advisory Council

A board shall establish a local School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) to assist a district in ensuring that local community values are reflected in the district’s health education instruction. Education Code 28.004(a)

School Health Advisory Council, a group of at least five members, a majority of whom must be parents, appointed by the school board to assist the district in ensuring that local community values and health issues are reflected in the district’s health education instruction, along with providing assistance with other student and employee wellness issues. Education Code 28.004(d)

School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) will hold 4 meetings per year and compile and publish an annual report to share with the Board of Trustees no later than May. The SHAC will:

  • Make recommendations regarding changes to the district's Wellness Plan.

  • Reviewing existing programs related to coordinated school health program encompassing issues such as school health services, counseling services, a safe and healthy school environment, recess recommendations, improving student fitness, and mental health concerns

The SHAC will meet at the Learning Center at 4:30 PM. on the following dates:

  • Monday, Oct. 9, 2023

  • Monday, Dec. 4, 2023

  • Monday, February 12, 2024

  • Monday, April 8, 2024
